MAP Announces Brian Loughlin as Principal

New York, NY (January 25, 2023)—Magnusson Architecture and Planning announces the promotion of Brian Loughlin to Principal. 

 
 

Mr. Loughlin has been with MAP for more than five years and as the company’s Director of Planning and Urban Design, he has built upon the firm’s long legacy of bringing a community-based and human-centered approach to planning and affordable housing design. His current projects include:

  • a four-building development with 500 affordable apartments in the Brownsville community of Brooklyn along Livonia Avenue; 

  • Harbor House which will offer permanent supportive housing for women fleeing domestic abuse in Schenectady;

  • The Rise which will create opportunities for formerly incarcerated women to reintegrate with their communities in Brooklyn;  and

  • Sol on Park, the winner of the NYCHA/HPD Seniors First Morris Houses RFP, a mixed-use development that will bring approximately 200 units of affordable senior housing and community programming to the Bronx.

An advocate for equitable housing, planning and community development, Mr. Loughlin is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Architecture and Real Estate Development at Columbia University, Chair of the American Planning Association’s Housing and Community Development Division and Co-Chair of AIANY’s Housing Committee. An expert in the field of affordable housing, he is also a frequent contributor to industry related publications and events, including Oculus Magazine’s Fall 2022 issue for which he was the guest editor, and the Center for Architecture’s conference, NYC’s Housing Crisis, which featured Mr. Loughlin along with other leading housing experts, journalists, policymakers, community activists, planners, and designers.

Mr. Loughlin’s experience prior to joining MAP includes positions as the Director of New Construction for NYCHA and Chief Architect for the Jersey City Housing Authority.
