The Printhouse
Location: Hudson Valley, NY
Client: East & Hudson
Type: Mixed-Use
Size: 68,303 SF
Units: 71
Targeting young professionals seeking a more affordable urban lifestyle, The Printhouse offers well-appointed apartments, integrated technology, amenities and a short walk to the commuter rail, in downtown New Rochelle, NY.
This new development replaces an old printing warehouse and retail space along Huguenot St., and will offer both market rate (90% ) and affordable (10%) rental units.
It is one of the first projects to open amidst the city’s downtown revitalization program, the most ambitious plan in the history of New Rochelle.
Built on the site of a former printing business, the design embraces that heritage. Rectangular frames on the exterior reference the tools and cases used in typesetting. The horizontal orientation of the frames and light-colored panels along with the vertical groupings of windows suggest the look of metal type pieces set in a form ready for printing.
The ground floor will have approximately 3,000 sf of retail/commercial, flexible for shared-work spaces, a coffee shop, or other alternatives.
The units have modern, high-quality finishes and large windows for natural light. Those on the upper floors have balconies.
